Job Title: Internal Controls Project Lead
Location: Hybrid with Domestic Travel (East Coast)
About the Role:
Our client, a growing and manufacturing company, is seeking a hands-on Internal Controls Project Lead to oversee the alignment and integration of internal controls across legacy operations and newly acquired entities. This role is ideal for someone who combines a strong internal audit background with the ability to operationalize controls, build process documentation, and drive integration in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Internal Control Monitoring & Risk Matrix Review (40%)
As the Internal Controls Project Lead , you’ll be responsible for reviewing and maintaining the organization’s Risk and Control Matrix—ensuring that key operational and financial risks are clearly identified, documented, and mitigated through effective procedures.
Acquisition Integration & Controls Alignment (30%)
Lead the process of marrying current internal control practices with those of a newly acquired company. The Internal Controls Project Lead will assess and close documentation gaps and develop actionable plans to bring both sides into alignment.
Control Implementation at New Locations (20%)
The Internal Controls Project Lead will conduct site visits at three East Coast locations to introduce control procedures, build standard operating procedures (SOPs), and partner with onsite teams to roll out consistent processes.
Process Walkthroughs & SOP Development (10%)
Conduct detailed process walkthroughs to understand workflows and translate those into well-documented SOPs. The Internal Controls Project Lead will ensure procedures are clearly outlined, scalable, and compliant.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional domestic travel is expected, primarily to East Coast locations, for onsite integration and process documentation work. As Internal Controls Project Lead , you will be a key presence at these locations to ensure successful implementation.
Qualifications – Must Haves:
5+ years of experience in internal controls, audit, or risk/compliance roles
Experience working with or as an internal/external audit partner
Demonstrated success in SOP development and implementation
Strong analytical, communication, and follow-through skills
Ability to lead integration efforts and document control structures
Nice to Have:
Experience with post-acquisition integration or control redesign
CPA, CIA, or similar certification
Background in manufacturing, distribution, or operational environments
Experience working in fast-paced or evolving organizations
