About the Role
Kitsap Credit Union is in search of a Director of Internal Audit. The Director of Internal Audit carries out the duties and responsibilities as dictated by professional standards and contributes to the credit union’s mission by overseeing the Internal Audit department. This role is ultimately responsible for the risk-based audit plan’s completion, which requires leadership of the Internal Audit department and coordination of other qualified auditors. The Director of Internal Audit is the figurehead of the Internal Audit department and represents the team when interacting with the Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors. This role reports functionally to the Supervisory Committee and administratively to the Chief Executive Officer (dual reporting).
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Internal Audit Department Oversight
Management responsibility for Senior, Staff, and Intern auditor positions
Aligns the risk and strategic initiatives of KCU with the development and activities of the internal audit department through the development, and deployment of a strategic plan
Create, maintain, and oversee department compliance with Internal Audit policies and procedures
Create, implement, and monitor the annual risk assessment and risk-based audit plan to manage and deploy department resources
Ensure that all Internal Audit work and deliverables adhere to the professional standards defined by the Institute of Internal Auditors
Establish, measure, and report goal result and benchmarks for the Internal Audit department
Create, maintain, and oversee the Quality Assurance and Improvement Program
2. Department Operations Execution
Oversee and manage all audit engagements, from planning to final reporting
Establish and oversee department work schedules, plans, and financial budgets
Review staff workpapers and other deliverables to ensure audit fieldwork, testing, and evidence is sufficient to support audit conclusions
Ensure adequate audit coverage, avoid duplication of efforts, and maximize staff efficiency
3. Internal Audit Reporting, Tracking, and Follow-Up
Create and oversee the development of impactful reports that include sufficient detail, describe analyses, and present results
Present reports and findings to executive management, the Supervisory Committee, and the Board of Directors as assigned
Establish and oversee an audit issue tracking and follow-up process; monitor and report results
4. Support and Liaison for the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee
Manage the Supervisory Committee’s selection process of the independent external auditors
Serve as the Supervisory Committee’s primary liaison between regulatory examiners, external auditors, consultants, and corporate staff
Coordinate and execute regular Supervisory Committee meetings
Perform ad hoc investigations, reviews, and any other special assignments requested by the Supervisory Committee, Board of Directors, and/or management
5. Training and Continuing Professional Education
Develop, execute, and oversee completion of the training plan for the Internal Audit department
Educate corporate staff and officials regarding matters of which Internal Audit has special knowledge
6. Other Duties and Functions
Maintain effective verbal and written communication with employees, officials, and other stakeholders as needed
Manage relationships with external auditors, consultants, company auditees, regulators, and other parties as needed
Perform administrative functions for the Internal Audit department, such as annual financial budgeting, Human Resources tasks related to the department and staff, etc.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Financial Institution experience required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software.
Demonstrates a high level of engagement and active collaboration contributing to a positive team environment.
Understand, model, and represent KCU’s core values.
Required Qualifications and Education
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a business-related major
Ten or more years of progressive Internal Audit experience including management roles
Preferred Qualifications and Education
Professional certifications (CPA, CIA, CFE, CCUIA, CUCE, or other industry certifications) preferred
Financial Institution experience preferred
SUPERVISORY STATUS
This position supervises others and is responsible for being results oriented, collaborative, delegate effectively, and embrace the organization’s core values, ensuring team effectiveness.
Working conditions
This position will be required to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and, with or without reasonable accommodation is required:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a minimum of 75% of the time
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machines
Occasionally ascends/descends stairs
Constantly positions self in work environment
The person in this position frequently communicates with peers, supervisors, vendors, and employees to exchange accurate information and answer questions
Must be able to detect objects at a distance
On occasion will move up to 20 pounds of office objects
Works in an indoor office environment but expected to attend meetings in buildings that require travel in outdoor weather conditions
